Porcelain and natural sandstone behave very differently underfoot and underground. Porcelain is dense, low-maintenance, and doesn’t absorb water, so it needs a solid mortar bed and precise grading to shed rainwater cleanly. Sandstone is more porous, more forgiving to cut, and it weathers into its surroundings over time, which some people prefer. We use permeable jointing compound and resin-bound edging on both systems where drainage is a concern, because getting water away from the slab properly is half the job. Jointing is the bit most people never think about until it fails.

We’ve worked on everything from period cottage gardens to new-build plots on the Hathaway Reach development outside Warwick. Tight access, clay soil, sloped sites. None of that phases us. But the awkward ones are sometimes the most satisfying to finish.
