Chipping Norton Patios

A garden that drains properly starts with the groundwork

Poor falls are where most patio problems begin. When the base isn’t graded correctly and drainage is left as an afterthought, water sits on the surface after every shower. That standing water works into joints, freezes overnight, and lifts slabs before a single winter has passed. We lay every patio with the fall and sub-base calculated first, before a single slab goes down.

What we work with

We cover most of what a garden in this part of Oxfordshire needs.

  • Porcelain paving, large format and standard sizes
  • Indian sandstone and natural Indian limestone
  • Concrete flagstones for driveways and utility areas
  • New garden walling in brick or natural stone
  • Timber fencing, close-board and post-and-rail
  • Turfed lawns and artificial grass installations

Materials behave differently out here

Working up near the Cotswold escarpment, exposed gardens can be brutal in winter. The limestone we use tones across each batch, warm creams sitting next to slightly cooler greys within the same delivery, and that natural Indian limestone tonal variation is actually one of the things customers end up loving once it’s laid. It settles into the landscape rather than fighting it.

Porcelain is a different animal entirely. It’s dense, it won’t absorb, and it gives a cleaner look that suits more contemporary plots.

Fencing and walling done properly

A fence put up without correctly set posts won’t last. We concrete every post, check for level, and use treated timber throughout. Walling is pointed to match whatever the house already has where we can manage it.

Worth thinking about.
